Description

The Bar Tribunals & Adjudication Service is responsible for organising and administering Disciplinary Tribunals and other hearings to consider the most serious allegations of professional misconduct against practising and aspiring barristers.

BTAS is seeking persons to join its Pool of individuals eligible to act as KC Members and Panel Chairs at hearings. This is vital work which depends on the knowledge, commitment and expertise of those who volunteer their services.

Applicants will need to be able to analyse and reach structured and reasoned decisions on complex and sometimes sensitive issues.

In addition to attendance fees, reasonable travel, subsistence and accommodation expenses may be claimed by all those appointed while acting at hearings.

Those appointed would be expected to be available to act at hearings an average of 4 - 6 days per year.

Equality of opportunity

BTAS would particularly like to encourage applications from all diverse members of our community and society, as we feel that our panels are currently under-represented by minority groups. If you have a disability or for any other good reason are seeking a reasonable adjustment to the recruitment process, please contact recruitment@tbtas.org.uk.

We aim to select on the basis of merit. All applications will be anonymised before they are considered in the interests of fair selection.

Applicants are asked to provide equality and diversity data so that we can monitor the fairness of the recruitment process. This information does not form part of the selection process and will be treated in confidence: it will be kept separate from your application and will not be seen by those responsible for shortlisting or interviewing candidates.

How to Apply

If you are interested in being considered for membership of the BTAS Disciplinary Pool please examine the Role Description, Duties and Competencies set out in the Application Pack carefully to assess whether you are suitable.

It is important you complete the application in full. This is to ensure the members of the TAB can easily find the information they require in order to mark the responses from all candidates consistently and objectively to a set standard. For this reason, applications from candidates who have not completed the online application form will not be considered, unless a reasonable adjustment to the recruitment process (due to disability or for any other good reason) has been approved by BTAS. For the same reasons, CVs will not be considered. For further information about this, please contact recruitment@tbtas.org.uk.

To proceed, please click the ‘Continue to full details and application’ button below. After reading and accepting the privacy policy you will be directed to the online application being hosted by GatenbySanderson.

Should you not complete your application in one sitting, please ensure you save your progress on each section. To access your saved application at a later date return to this page and continue as if applying again; your saved responses will be pre-populated in the online application form when logged-in.

Please note that feedback will not be given to candidates following the shortlisting process, regardless of whether candidates have been invited to interview or not.
