Welcome
Thank you for your interest in joining the Bar Tribunals and Adjudication Service’s Disciplinary Tribunal Pool.
We are seeking barristers, lay representatives and QCs to act as Panel Members of Disciplinary Tribunals and other hearings for barristers. Members of the Pool will also consider the conduct of aspiring barristers to determine whether they are ‘fit and proper’ persons for a career at the Bar.
We are also seeking barristers to serve as Clerks to the Tribunals, supporting the delivery of fair and independent hearings that ensure both public and professional interests are properly served.
Hearings take place in central London, and all roles are eligible to receive attendance fees and reasonable expenses.
The Bar Tribunals and Adjudication Service (‘BTAS’) is a constituent part of the Council of the Inns of Court (‘COIC’), a charity that exists to advance education in the sound administration of the law, including by promoting high standards of advocacy and enforcing professional standards of conduct. Responsibility for the recruitment and selection of new Members and Clerks to join the Pool has been delegated by COIC to an independent and stand-alone Committee, known as the Tribunal Appointments Body (‘the TAB’).
The TAB has determined that recruitment should take place during the first six months of 2020, following which successful candidates will be asked to complete a programme of written and face-to-face training (including attending and observing a hearing). Appointments will be made to fill vacancies in the Pool occurring from 2023 onwards.
We would very much encourage you to apply if you think you have the motivation, experience and skills to join the BTAS Disciplinary Pool.
Yours sincerely,
Lady Justice Simler
Chair of the Tribunal Appointments Body
